No, you do not need an app to receive your deposit payout. The deposit amount is paid out directly.
Returns and machines
You can easily return RECUP products at machines in five central locations around the market . You can find a map further up on this page or on the overview maps at the market. At the machine, scan the QR code on the cups or bowls and place them in the compartment once the flap opens. The machine accepts all RECUP reusable containers that you borrowed at Viktualienmarkt. Confirm the type and number of products. The deposit amount is paid out directly – easy! All steps are also explained on the machine display. Please make sure to empty any food or drink residues, napkins etc. into a bin beforehand so they do not unnecessarily soil the machine.
You can always return the reusable products at Viktualienmarkt at a later point – the return machines operate 24/7. We ask you to return cups and bowls at the market so they can be used there again quickly. Returning them at another one of our roughly 20,000 RECUP partners across Germany is, of course, also possible.
The machines are the easiest and fastest way to return RECUP cups and bowls. Some market stalls may also take back the cups and bowls in exceptional cases, for example if all machines are out of service. In that case, feel free to ask.
At the machines, you can only return RECUP cups and bowls that you received at the market. They have a special QR code that can be read by the return machine.
Contact us at automat@recup.de and we will reply as quickly as possible.
Is it a RECUP cup or bowl from Viktualienmarkt? Then first check the machine display to see whether an error message is shown. If no error message is shown and the return still does not work, please try again or use one of the other return machines at the market. If the return does not work there either, contact us at automat@recup.de and ask one of the market stalls about returning it. We will reply as quickly as possible.
We are in contact with the Bavarian Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired as well as contacts for accessible operation, and we are optimizing the machines as they develop further. If you have suggestions for more inclusive operation, please contact us at automat@recup.de. We appreciate every piece of feedback and take it very seriously.
You can borrow RECUP cups and bowls in different sizes at Viktualienmarkt. All products you borrow at Viktualienmarkt have a special QR code and can be returned at the machines.
The machines are emptied several times a week, and the service provider Cup Company Service professionally cleans the containers according to all common hygiene standards for food contact before they are returned to circulation at the market for the next use.
QR-Code
The QR code allows us to identify RECUP cups and bowls from the market and make returns at the machine possible. The devices read the QR code to determine whether it is the correct reusable product. All RECUP products borrowed at the market can also be returned there.
Project period and other markets
The reusable system at Viktualienmarkt is planned for five years from its launch. Due to its size, Viktualienmarkt is the first market, but other district markets in Munich are planned to follow.
Food service businesses are currently still transitioning from single-use to reusable packaging. Even though we would like to see 100% reusable packaging everywhere, not all customers are convinced yet. So please feel free to proactively ask for RECUP!
Data protection and cashless payout:
In this case, you can contact the market stall where the reusable product was borrowed so they can take back the cups or bowls and refund your deposit in cash.
Payment to your bank account is only initiated for the transaction. We do not store your data long-term.
